Looking to get outside more this year?

With hundreds of acres of parks and open space, you can enjoy more fresh air, more adventures, and more exercise in beautiful Cleburne, Texas. Step back in time exploring the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum. Walk, ride, or run 13 miles of trails at Cleburne State Park. Enjoy a day on the greens at Cleburne Golf Links.

Studies have shown that physical activity outdoors can lower blood pressure and reduce stress. It’s time to get outside in Cleburne!

Walk, Run and Ride

Get the heart rate going with a jog at Cleburne State Park. Spanning a total of 528 acres, the park has 13 miles of trails, 5.5 of which are designated for mountain bikes. The terrain varies from fast-rolling to hard-pack singletrack with limestone rock. Work your way to the top of the spillway climb for well-deserved scenic lake views.

If running isn’t your speed, go for a nice, long walk. Set your own pace alongside Buffalo Creek— two laps around Hulen Park adds up to one mile. It’s also the home of Steam Engine 3417, the perfect combination of exercise and fun for history and railroad enthusiasts. Historical markers take you on a trip of Cleburne since the 1900’s to now.

Take a stroll through the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum. Explore the trail used in the late 19th century while getting your heart rate up. Wind through the Blacksmith Shop, check out the original courthouse, and push yourself to the top of the hill to see a restored stagecoach.

Hit the Greens

Spending time outdoors is a proven health benefit. If you need a better excuse to play more golf, here you go. Designed and built by golf architect Leon Howard, Cleburne Golf Links offers 18 holes and over 7,000 yards of picturesque Lake Pat Cleburne with a first-class practice facility on site. After your round, grab a table at the Grille for a burger, voted number 1 by Avidgolfer magazine (and almost everyone that has had it).

Make a Splash

Swimming offers a low-impact, total body workout and it isn’t just for summer. Located south of Hulen Park, Splash Station is open year-round. The competition pool, which features eight lanes, is domed in the winter months offering lap swims twice a day. Admission for lap swims is just $6, days and times may vary based on season.

Fuel the Body

Maximize the benefits of your outdoor excursion with a nutritional post-workout meal. Cleburne has many healthy restaurant options to choose. Keep it lean with the hob gobbler from The Garden of Eating Bistro, a. turkey sandwich on sourdough that locals rave about. Stop by Purple Turnip for a refreshing salad and soup, or one of their daily specials such as shrimp caesar salad with avocado or chicken breast with sauteed spinach and mushrooms. Kick up your metabolism with a spicy stir fry and a healthy veggie assortment of mushrooms, zucchini, cabbage, bell pepper, bamboo shoots, carrots, and basil at family-owned Thai Garden Café. Or keep it light with a fresh fruit smoothie at V Supreme Deli Juice Bar.

Cleburne has everything you need to plan a healthy getaway or a staycation that will kickstart your resolution plans.
